Abuse
Childhood abuse
Childhood abuse refers to the harm inflicted on a child, often by a parent or caregiver. It can happen in various settings, including the home, schools, or community organizations where the child is present.
- Physical abuse involves any form of physical violence against a child.
- Emotional or psychological abuse occurs when an adult frequently criticizes, dismisses, or intimidates a child.
- Physical neglect means the child is not provided with the necessary care and support.
- Emotional or psychological neglect happens when a child is deprived of positive attention, love, and security. This also includes situations where children witness violence between adults.
- Sexual abuse involves any unwanted sexual contact imposed on a child by an adult.
The impact of childhood abuse can persist indefinitely, making it crucial to seek the help of a professional.
Narcissistic abuse
Narcissistic abuse is a form of emotional, psychological, or physical mistreatment often inflicted by individuals with narcissistic traits or narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). Those with NPD typically struggle with empathy, exhibit emotional instability, and harbor a sense of superiority, which can lead to manipulative and controlling behaviors.
Victims may endure various forms of abuse, including relentless criticism, humiliation, love bombing, manipulation, gaslighting, verbal insults, and emotional coercion, all designed to undermine and dominate them. As a result, victims often feel isolated, bewildered, and uncertain about the dynamics of the relationship. The impact of this abuse can be profound and long-lasting, with survivors frequently facing challenges such as low self-esteem, flashbacks, heightened alertness, irritability, and disturbing dreams.
