Low Self-Esteem
Low self-esteem often develops in environments where your needs, feelings, or achievements were minimized, criticized, or ignored. For many survivors of abuse, neglect, or early attachment wounds, a sense of “not enough” becomes deeply ingrained — a learned belief that love or acceptance must be earned. You may find yourself doubting your worth, comparing yourself to others, or struggling to trust that you deserve kindness and respect.
These feelings can show up in subtle ways: difficulty accepting compliments, over-apologizing, perfectionism, or staying in relationships where your needs aren’t met. Beneath these patterns is often an old survival strategy — a way of staying safe in environments where being yourself once felt risky.
Therapy provides a supportive space to understand where these beliefs came from and begin rewriting the story you hold about yourself. Together, we’ll:
-
Uncover the early messages that shaped your sense of worth
-
Learn to recognize and challenge self-critical thoughts
-
Reconnect with the parts of you that were silenced or shamed
-
Build self-compassion and confidence rooted in truth, not fear
-
Strengthen your ability to set boundaries and honor your needs
Healing low self-esteem isn’t about becoming someone new — it’s about remembering who you were before you learned to doubt your value. With time and care, you can begin to feel grounded in your worth, confident in your voice, and at peace with who you are.
If you’re ready to rebuild your sense of self and step out of old patterns of self-doubt, I invite you to reach out and begin your healing journey.
